1.) How long have we been attending births?

Sylvia since 1977, and, Tracie since 1989.

2.) What equipment do we bring to the birth?

Sterile instruments, Homeopathic remedies, Herbal Tinctures and teas, medical oxygen, resuscitation equipment, rescue-vac for deep suctioning mucous, doptone for listening for fetal heart tones underwater, and fetoscopes

3.) Do we have experience with water births?

Yes. We also have several birthing pools available.

4.) What do DEM & TM mean?

Direct Entry Midwife (DEM) means we became midwives through a lengthy apprenticeship of study and experience under a mentor/preceptor prior to the avenue of the many midwifery schools that now exist. Traditional Midwife (TM) means we strive to preserve the ĎArtí of Traditional Midwifery through the use of personalized hour long prenatal & postnatal visits; education / instruction & resources for additional care; the use of herbs and homeopathics is our standard recourse of care, with Rx medications used as emergency backup.

5.) Do we carry liability insurance?

No. This type of liability coverage is not available to us.

6.) What about insurance billing?

We recommend a billing service specializing in home birth that will work with you towards reimbursement of our fee. The percentage of reimbursement is dependent on your insurance company and the plan(s) under which you have coverage.

7.) In which areas are your home birth midwifery services available?

We service most of East Central MN from Alexandria, MN to Western Wisconsin, and from Brainerd to Lakeville.

8) Are there conditions that would rule us out as good candidates for home birth?

9.) Do you have an established medical back-up arrangement?

Yes. Our medical back-up relationship has been established for over 20 years. We also support back-up medical providers of your choice.
